PVFC is a part of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS), and volunteers are eligible for benefits based on a point system.

Become a Volunteer Today!
We are offering individuals such as yourself the opportunity to join and experience one of today’s most diverse and challenging professions by becoming a member of our volunteer team, to continue our tradition of volunteer emergency service to the Purcellville community and surrounding areas. Our community is continuing to grow, and so is the need for operational volunteer members to become professionally trained firefighter/EMTs and respond to emergency calls. PVFC also needs associate/administrative volunteer members to assist with all of our behind-the-scenes activities such as community outreach, recruitment and retention, social media, public education, fundraising, publicity, and clerical duties just to name a few.
Initial Onboarding
- Complete background check and fingerprinting
- Complete NFPA 1582 physical & SCBA fit test
- Attend New Volunteer Orientation (NVO) – offered one Saturday a month (8 hrs)

Red Hat Training
- One night a week/2 hours each
- 4 weeks
- Get orientated to apparatus, tools, and equipment at the station
- Learn duty crew expectations

Duty Crew
- One night/week (6pm – 6am)
- Assigned Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday
- Absences require coordinating coverage
- May be excused on training/class nights

Fire School*
- 3 weeknights (T,W,Th 6pm – 10pm) and every other Saturday (8am – 5pm)
- 5 months long
- Firefighter I and II certification

EMT School*
- 2 weeknights (M, W 6pm – 10pm) and every Saturday (9am – 5pm)
- 3.5 months long
- National EMS registry and Virginia State certification

Volunteer Commitment
Dedication and Training Requirements
Becoming a volunteer at the Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company requires a significant commitment of both time and effort. Volunteers are expected to dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per month to training and service activities. Initial training includes comprehensive courses in fire safety, emergency medical response, and equipment handling, ensuring all volunteers are well-prepared to handle emergencies. Ongoing training sessions are conducted regularly to keep skills sharp and up-to-date. This commitment not only enhances personal skills but also plays a crucial role in safeguarding our community.
