pWINTER STORM WARNING in effect from 8 pm tonight through 3 pm Thursday afternoon. HOWEVER the WARNING will run through tomorrow night farther north and west of the Washington Metropolitan Area. And Calvert and St. Marys Counties under Advisories not Warnings.ppA major winter storm is continuing to develop and will bring heavy wet snow to the area beginning before 9 pm this evening. There continues to be good consistent model support for areas of sleet and possibly rain to intrude from the east tomorrow morning. That is why we have forecast lower snow totals south and east of DC. Sleet and Freezing Rain could reach the metro area for a time as well That was figured into our snowfall forecast for that area. HOWEVER the farther N and W of Washington you are it will remain all snow and that is why those areas have the highest snowfall predictions. Additionally the higher you are in elevation…above 700 to 900 feet the more likely you will see even more snow than your neighbors at lower elevations. It will be the biggest snowstorm since the Snowmageddon Storm of 2010. As in all storms computer models take you only so faractual conditions may develop differently than forecast. If the type of precipitation should change or the intensity or duration.some numbers may have to be adjusted.p
